GA: Interstate Business Loops
« on: June 21, 2024, 10:38:03 am »
Is it time to readdress these again?  (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?msg=2929722)

Question on the business loops, are any of them active anymore? Travelmapping is listing one in Cordele as still active but it has no signage at all, and the rest have just shields on the interstate and really sparse signage otherwise. Were these already decommissioned or somehow hanging on?

I don't know official policy of page, but they are next to useless.  I've never seen signage off of interstates in Georgia on the actual routes.  I think they exist purely to appease local cities with additional interstate signage through their towns.  For example, as I just looked at Google Street View in Tifton, there isn't even signage at the top of the of the ramp at exit 59.  I have a few friends in South Georgia, and they never speak of the loops when giving directions.  It's always the state highway number or road name.

As long as they are still signed from the freeway, I'm going to leave them in. I realize the signage on the route is minimal to nonexistent, but for the most part, the routes are pretty obvious. On the other hand, they don't add mileage, as they're all US or GA routes anyway.

Removing I-75 Bus Cordele, as it's not signed from I-75 any more (I couldn't find any signs on GMSV as of July or newer).
Removing I-75 Bus Valdosta (signs appear to have been removed between 2013 and 2019).

Leaving I-75 Bus Tifton (signs still on I-75 as of October 2024, per GMSV), as well as I-95 Bus Darien (unless I see they are removed when I drive through there next week).

Pull request coming soon.

Removing I-75 Bus Valdosta (signs appear to have been removed between 2013 and 2019).

I wouldn't recommend removing this one.  It's still has several signs for it along it's route, especially in downtown Valdosta.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/1mMmaMPEo3kWncfz9 (this is @ I-75 exit 16)
https://maps.app.goo.gl/RPCqxTh6QhFA8inC7 (this is on the NB I-75 exit 16 offramp!)
https://maps.app.goo.gl/vxQY26fKczSVtzR68 (both of the last 2 above still visible from I-75 as of Oct '24 GSV)

So what if the 'BGS's' don't show it.  It hasn't been on them since at least '08 @ Exit 16.

I'll put Valdosta back in. I didn't check the routing for signs.

Going to mark this as solved when I get to the next batch of GA updates (mid-January), unless I see any other comments.

The I-95 Business Loop for Darien still has an overhead reference northbound as of December 20. The last shield posted on the route was removed in 2007.

Also the node for US 41 at Farmers Market Road still references I-75BLCor_N for the former I-75 Cordele Business Loop.

This sign in Cordele? https://www.google.com/maps/@32.0036564,-83.7942574,3a,75y,49.54h,76.27t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1snoNouX1_g0N_0mvTpfvrjQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D13.730000000000004%26panoid%3DnoNouX1_g0N_0mvTpfvrjQ%26yaw%3D49.54!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTIxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

I wouldn't count that as a reference to the business loop.

Crazy that the route in Darien hasn't had any markers for 17 years, but the BGS has been replaced at least once since then!

The one remaining sign for BL I-95 on I-95 northbound as photographed on 12-20-24:

The last shield for BL I-95 was this assembly on U.S. 17/SR 25 south at SR 99:

Also the node for US 41 at Farmers Market Road still references I-75BLCor_N for the former I-75 Cordele Business Loop.

This sign in Cordele?
I wouldn't count that as a reference to the business loop.

I was referencing that the node should change from I-75BLCor_N to instead reference Farmers Market Road. Otherwise I agree with the removal of Business Loop I-75 from Travel Mapping.

FWIW there was a reference of Business Loop I-75 along Farmers Market Road still in 2014:

The south banner for the assembly was still there in December 2021.

Also there was at least one shield for BL I-75 on U.S. 280 still posted until August 2023.
