Also, the trail sign in the rest area says it's for the next 16 miles southbound, but TM has it going to the the exit after that, 20 miles away.

Your math is off. The sign in the rest area and the corresponding northbound sign (which is actually slightly south of exit 80) are about 15-and-a-half miles apart.

You're right about the distance. But it's still the case that the south end shares a point with I-15, while the north end is just an orphan that doesn't connect to anything else. Maybe I-15 should be given a point just to establish the concurrency.
