AR: ARUS70
« on: November 12, 2018, 10:13:59 pm »
I'm down here in Little Rock this week and it appears that US70 does not follow along I-30 through downtown Little Rock.  It follows what is labeled US70Bus.  I was on the section through North Little Rock and over the broadway bridge to I-630 today and all of the signs only said US70.  No mention of a business route even though that's how it's labeled on this site and google maps.

This is a case where official designations and signage in the middle of the route disagree with the most prominent signage at the ends of the split (May 2018, I-30 east; July 2017, US 70 west; May 2018, I-30 east in the middle). Unless these signs have been changed recently?

Thanks for the report. GMSV shows it signed as Business 70 at I-30 exit 132. Imagery is from May 2018. At exit 141B, the signage refers only to US 70 East in imagery from the same time. If these signs have been changed recently, let me know. Otherwise, I think it ought to stay where it is.

I drove around yesterday paying more attention to the signs.  The three images neroute2 posted are still there.  It was dark when I drove east on I-30 and the highway signs look old and most of the reflective material is gone now.  They were the only mention of US70 on I-30.  However, I drove all of what is called as US70 Bus here and it is signed as regular US70 the whole way both directions.  Also when you get off I-30 at the location of the second image (cypress street) it has signs for US70 east and west.

The wiki page for US70 if you believe wiki also claims it now takes the business route and the business route designation ended in the mid 2000's

The Wikipedia article has no sources, so I can't use that. Arkansas is generally good at marking the business routes with a B, so you definitely have a point here. But those BGSs still make me hesitant to change anything.

US 70B posting - https://goo.gl/maps/2SVneDps8pG2 (2015, still up in 2017 view from Roosevelt) and another here (2016, and are visible from I-30 in a 2018 view) - https://goo.gl/maps/uav3DFLiuBm
These could be left over from wholesale shield replacements, a 2007 view shows a 70B posting on W Broadway approaching N Broadway; also at AR 365 approaching along Roosevelt; also 2 places where US 70 leaves Asher for Roosevelt; also at Asher and University

Also, on US 70 west approaching I-30 there are US 70 signs to turn onto I-30 west.  There also used to be a US 70B shield there (https://goo.gl/maps/jUUrTmrrmGK2) taken down by 2008.

For the record, US 70B has never officially existed in state records (but has of course been posted by the state for some time). County maps through 2002 actually show US 67 on those same surface streets; the 2003 map (which marks a change in style) does not show any US 67 shields south of I-40. So whatever happens with US 70 should probably also be done with US 67.

Yeah the GPS in the rental car I have was calling all of the 70B route US67 as well.  Didn't see any signs for that.  The strange part about that sign on west US70 approaching I-30 that say to turn (still there by they way) is that is you continue under I-30 past the interstate entrance and there is a sign calling the route US70 west almost immediately.  I haven't seen any US70B signs for roads crossing it, but I haven't driven on many of them.  I can say all of the route is signed US70 not US70B.  Definitely seems like Arkansas has some incorrect signs though.  I'm surprised there isn't some official government source that defines the route.
