NC: I-140 is open and signed
« on: December 27, 2017, 11:58:31 pm »
The final segment of I-140 is open. Both the new segment and former NC140 are signed as I-140, although the mile markers on former NC140 still show its former designation. I didn’t get a photo of the exit midway through the new segment, but I think it’s Exit 10. US17 is co-signed with I-140 between Exit 14 and I-40, and I-140 still ends at I-40.

edit: here are photos in case they're helpful. First 3 are in the former NC140 segment and new segment; last one is at the I-40 exit

files submitted this afternoon.

I have left NC 140 alone for now as it is in theory going to be put on the freeway east of I-40/140 when US 17 is moved back into Wilmington...

There's a good chance this describes exactly what was submitted today, but here's some info from user aaroads by email:

Quote
Yesterday I reclinched I-140 around Wilmington, and figured I'd pass along info on it. The newest section is fully signed as I-140, but guide signs are not in place along all of westbound yet. The previous NC 140 portion is still mileposted with NC 140 mileposts, and signed as such on guide signs. However the freeway is shielded with I-140 confirming markers on the mainline, complete with a new end shield for the southwest terminus. The part of I-140 east of I-40 is still just US 17, with the original end/begin shields at I-40 unchanged.

Even though my comment here is not directly related to the US 17 rerouting away from I-140, what I am asking for should not be done until we have proof that US 17 has been rerouted in the field.

On a family vacation to Myrtle Beach before I-140 was open between US 421 and I-40, we took US 117 SB to US 17 SB and followed its pre-2006 routing (Market to 16th/17th to US 76) through Wilmington.

I am basically requesting that points be added on US 17 BUS and US 17/76 at their intersections with 16th/17th St.

EDIT:  US 76 has this point marked as 16th Ave.  It is only necessary for US 17 BUS.

Bumping noting that is was posted that US 17 signage is started to reflect the rerouting.
