UT: BL-15/84 in Brigham City
« on: December 08, 2019, 06:25:30 pm »
The business loop for I-15/84 in Brigham City was previously deleted in August 2018, on the grounds that it was not signed.

However, this is incorrect. As of June 2019 when GSV went through last, there are indeed reassurance shields for those routes, and they should be added back to the highway browser.

Okay so poking around on street view it looks like that one pair of shields on NB Main St has continuously been there and was never gone. On the other hand that pair of signs seems to be the only pair of signs currently present.

There was another pair on the southbound exit 365 offramp in 2013, but those were gone by 2018, so we've also got a trend towards unsignage here.

Meanwhile, interstate business loops in Utah do not officially exist on paper as far as UDOT is concerned. And with only one sign still there, trying to even define the routing would require presuming the now-removed signs remain accurate.

I can appreciate that the prior assertion that the route was "unsigned" isn't 100% accurate but... stupid truck routes.

Anyone else have an opinion here on whether Schroedinger's business loop does or doesn't exist?

Another northbound reassurance exists at 700 South:

Admittedly this business loop was signed better in the past, but I don't think we can call it unsigned yet - there are still multiple reassurance shields posted, and the routing seems pretty obvious from the history. In the case of those signs on the exit 365 ramp, those were old enough that UDOT may not have realized they were there, and so failed to include replacements for them in the plans when those ramps were reconstructed sometime between 2013 and 2018.

It should also be noted that as a whole, business loop signage in Utah isn't really that good because almost every single one has an underlying state route that UDOT seems to care about more. And in the case of the southern terminus, that exit is far more consequential as the exit from I-15 towards Logan than as an exit for Brigham City, which may explain the lack of BL signage there.
