IRL: M50 to R139 link road
« on: March 07, 2023, 03:00:56 pm »
The link road connecting the M50 at J3 Turnapin to the R139 at the Clonshaugh Road roundabout is currently included as part of the R139. Although this road was never legally part of the R139 (instead being a spur of the N50), it was formerly signed as such. However, around 2018, the signs at the Clonshaugh Road roundabout and on the link road itself were changed to blue signs with the M50 number, despite the road not technically being a motorway. However, the signs at the Turnapin roundabout still say R139, although there are M50 signs after this. Should we add this road as a spur of the M50 or leave it as is? I am leaning more towards the former as there are signs in both directions as well as legislation supporting it.

(EDIT: Just in case you aren't aware, motorways in Ireland are legally national roads, not a separate system from them)

I'd add the segment to M50 if it would be the end of M50. However, it isn't.
I'd add a spur route to HB if the segment would be "long enough" and there would be another GSJ on the segment. However, the segment is only 500 meter long and there is no GSJ on the segment.
I'd keep it as-is. I guess that our maintainer si404 might think similar.

I've not closed it as I've not yet decided whether to change it.

It is signed as M50 heading away from the mainline, but it's also not under motorway regulations.

I don't really care whether it gets added or not. Not a particularly important spur anyway and not one that I have personally used.
