VA: US 50 and US 29 near I-495
« on: September 01, 2019, 11:51:01 pm »
US 50 has an exit off of I-495 just south of where I-66 crosses.  US 29 is in between.  There are two connector roads on each side to take you over to US 29 from US 50.  These are Gallows Rd. (AKA SR 650) and Fairview Parkway.  US 50 has points at each of these two roads but US 29 does not.  From US 50, Fairview Parkway is the one that has To US 29 on it.  US 29 had a To I-495 on it at Gallows which gets there via US 50.

US 29 has a I-495 point for its partial interchange with the Capital Beltway's express lanes. It is fairly close to both connectors to US 50.

US 50 has points for its connectors to US 29. But I suspect they were added only because there are interchanges between US 50 and both connectors, which you don't have on US 29.

Yes.  The points on US 50 exist because those are interchanges.  IIRC, there are no corresponding points on US 29 because of the nature of the area (urban vs. rural), US 50 not being an Interstate, and we haven't had specific requests from folks who may need those points.  I know from my own experience that folks typically only cross between US 50 and US 29 (or I-66) when there's a crash on one.

OK, that makes sense.  First time getting off around there since we're staying in Falls Church off of US 50 and the three times through on 50 so far have been in the dark.  So, I didn't pick up on the difference between it and US 29 (just through once so far).  Some of the map overlays do not make it as obvious as Google Maps does.  Thanks for the explanation.  I'm cool with I-495 as our waypoint for US 29, although I'll see if we can extend it as we head out of town tomorrow.  Otherwise, a future trip.

I most likely would have added both points anyway (especially without the I-495 HOT Lanes Interchange), but points here are definitely not worth me going insane over.

GSV on US 29 does show the "TO I-495" shield at SR 650 (Gallows Rd) that mikeandkristie mentioned.

There is no mention of US 50 at US 29, but Fairview Park Drive is mentioned as the way to get to US 29 from US 50 EB.

Note that any changes to US 29 here would also need to be done to VA 237.

More importantly, US29_E on VA 237 needs to be changed to US29_N.
