OH: Anyone keeping track of the truck routes for 37 in Delaware?
« on: November 20, 2018, 07:34:55 pm »
...and by anyone I mean Mapcat.
Looks like after 20+ years, the truck routing for Oh 37 in Delaware (to avoid this bridge - http://bridgehunter.com/oh/delaware/bh69321/)
is no longer temporary.
In the process, it appears (unofficial) Alt Oh 37 has also been retired.
However, there are now Truck Route Oh 37 signs at just about every cross street with Central Ave (Oh 37).
Case in point.....

US 42 SB (Lake St) approaching Oh 37 (Central Ave)

US 42 SB (Lake St) at US 36 (William St)

Oh 37 (Central Ave WB) approaching Sandusky St (Old US 23)

Oh 37 (W. Central Ave, WB) at N. Liberty St.

N. Liberty St at US 36 (W. William St.)

Oh 37 (W. Central Ave, WB) at Euclid Ave

Euclid Ave. at Pennsylvania St. (You still living near here, Mapcat?)

Oh 37 (W. Central Ave, EB) at Troy Rd

Pennsylvania Ave at N. Sandusky St (and north interchange with US 23)

N. Sandusky St, SB at Oh 37 (Central Ave)
----
Truck Route Oh 37 signs seen but not photographed....
US 36 WB at Hauk Rd
Hauk Rd NB at Oh 37
Troy Rd NB at Pennsylvania Ave
US 36/37 split on the (far) eastside of Delaware
----
Unconfirmed & unseen if any Truck Route Oh 37 signage is visable at Sandusky & William Sts (DT Delaware)

Whadya want to do?

Yes, this is on my to-do list. As in, call the city and ask WTF.

Thanks for the photos, but yes, I've seen these in person many times. They make no sense as a "truck route" since there are at least four separate routes. Miss the first sign? There's another one to take you on a different path to bypass the same underpass. And then another one. The fact that they're all fairly well signed at the corners is an argument for including them, but the "truck route" they define is at the very least impractical. Route semis down Euclid?! Wonderful idea at 7:15am.

Once I get this mess sorted out I'll also truncate OH 521 to 36/37 east of Delaware. I don't think that's been signed in the city since I moved here 18 years ago.

But I told you 521 hasn't been signed in Delaware since the US 23 bypass was finished in '67. It was the same meeting where you talked me into going to LSU for grad school, back in '03.  8)

Oh, OK, now I know who you are! Didn't realize you were back in Ohio now. Hope it turned out to be good advice!

Sorry for neglecting to work on 521, but I hadn't noticed the routing until I was looking into which files would need to be updated once these Stupid Truck Routes get sorted out. I guess I must have noticed it when I created my .list, but that was long before I was maintaining Ohio.

Finally got through to the Delaware city public works people (ODOT has no interest in signage for truck routes unless they're on ODOT-maintained roads). The actual truck route is where it's always been, along US 36 & Houk Rd. Alt 37 is gone. The person I talked to said that the other signs are just for trucks that miss the other signage, to show additional alternatives to get around the low bridge, but they don't constitute a real truck route. I suggested adding TO banners to them, which she said they'd consider. So I'm considering all the additional signs as erroneous.

OH37TmpTrkDel is now OH37TrkDel, and the segment that bent back around to US23 is now gone. I moved the eastern end to the US36/37 split (the "Point") since that's where the easternmost sign is. The sign at the end of the SB US 23 ramp can be considered to be another one missing a TO banner.

So Temp Truck Detour Oh 37 can claim 2nd longest (in terms of time) Temp route in ODOT/ODH history (1999-2018).
Temp US 40 in East Columbus/Bexley is still the record holder (1940-78)

I almost forgot...
You going to truncate the south end of Oh 61 from 36/37/3 to 36/3?

Sure, I can get that one too. Do you have any more of these that need attention?

(Yeah, I know its been 2 1/2 years but...)
So Mapcat, Beyond the Delaware City Engineering Dept adding an Oh 521 shield at Central & Sandusky, are there any other Oh 521 shields along Sandusky (Old US 23) and William (US 36) I am missing? I didn't see anything Oh 521 related, west of Oakland Nursery/Sheetz, while cruising William Street this morning.
Myself and others have argued, unsuccessfully, for other routes to be added to Ohio's system, with more signs shown than what I saw for you to re-add 521 within Delaware, the other day.

I didn’t see any others. But now that it’s actually signed at it’s end, I felt it could go either way and decided to restore it to its former glory.

My thought when seeing your post last night was that you were referring to this old topic (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=3141.0).
