MS: US Business routes
« on: January 29, 2023, 02:43:18 pm »
I was doing some future roadtrip planning through Mississippi, and was curious why the US business routes in Natchez and Vicksburg weren't in the HB? I know that most of these are not signed at their endpoints with their parent routes (with one exception). However, all of them are signed well enough that their routes are discernable.

Signs for US61Bus in Vicksburg are found at the north end and (essentially) south end. US80 Historic is also signed EB at the aforementioned link and westbound. Unfortunately, no signage at the or near the junction indicating its turn.

Signs for US61Bus appear in Natchez on St. Catherine St, the turn at MLK St, and turn at Homochitto St. US84Bus is also on St. Catherine then Jefferson, with signs WB at the turn onto Canal St, and EB at the turn onto Franklin St.

Long story short, Mississippi gave up on Business routes decades ago, before my FIRST time being stationed there (which was in 1998).  Any signage you see is renmant that just hasn't been removed by the respective towns.

False. Compare 2009 and 2014.

Town installation.  Doesn't change my overall point.  Mississippi was never big on them anyways, especially after they started giving their bypassed US routes a MS 1xx designation.
