TN 50 Win moved to bypass
« on: February 21, 2022, 08:12:34 pm »
Coming back from weekend trip to Nashville and seeing Jack Daniel's home, came through Winchester TN.  Signs clearly show TN 50 being routed onto new road W of town south towards roundabout with TN 16.  Signs were not 100% clear, but I assume continues onto US 64 bypass around town before reconnecting with current route NE of Winchester.

At first, this looked like an easy adjustment, especially since this and this show it's been signed on the new route since at least 2018. But then I found this on the northeast side of the bypass (November 2021). TDOT functional classification maps show it on...both the old and the new route. Investigating.

Another possibility.  This sign (https://www.google.com/maps/@35.1716321,-86.1276579,3a,75y,257.45h,81.99t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5zJdag1Ymkv1JLa0v98K2w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en) southbound from downtown Winchester entering traffic circle could imply TN 50 was rerouted on an overlay with US 64 Bus/TN16 through downtown Winchester.

This sign in downtown Winchester where TN50 used to turn right also seems to confirm my theory.  And sorry for long links. Couldn't figure out how to embed.

Based on signage, it seems to overlap US 64 Business and US 41A through Winchester. In particular, this sign replaced this one when the bypass opened.

Documentation from TDOT confirms this. https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/5683
