CA CA146 and CA173
« on: September 20, 2023, 04:10:06 am »
California state route 146 still has a short eastern section connected to route 25. The signage has apparently been taken down, but it is still listed in the CalTrans postmile query tool.

The dirt portion of state route 173 is also still listed in the postmile query tool, even though it's gated off, probably permanently. Since some of us have actually driven it before it was closed, it should be listed somewhere, maybe as "historic". I suppose the same argument could be made for the northern end of route 39, although that's been closed to traffic since 1978.

The Pinnacles National Park boundary has been moved, to include the entire route 146 segment connecting to route 25. The National Park Service has also moved the park entrance station closer to route 25, so now all park facilities are subject to an entry fee.

In any case, as Mark points out, the removal of route signage is enough for us to remove it from the HB.

Believe it or not, CA-146 there is still signed Oscar.

Ugh. I'll add ca.ca146pin.wpt back into the system, with conforming changes to the CA 25 route file and the usaca .csv files.

The western endpoint of the new file will be at the approximate location of the old entrance station (about where the Postmile Query Tool places the route end), rather than the new entrance station, the new park boundary, or the parking lot at the end of pavement.

Restored CA 146 (Pinnacles NP) segment is now in the HB.

There's nothing to do with the permanently-closed (except for emergency vehicles) unpaved CA 173 segment left out of the HB. So making this topic as solved.
