TX: TXLp286 question
« on: August 03, 2024, 01:58:14 am »
It seems that TM only shows the southern side of the loop around Paris, TX as Loop 286. However, the parts that TM has missing are well signed as Loop 286 (additionally, OSM marks all of the loop as Loop 286). Is there a reason why only the southern half of Loop 286 is marked on TM? Barring that potential reason, I suggest that Loop 286 should be extended on TM over the northern half of the Paris loop.

OSM by itself doesn't really mean anything. Much like wikipedia.
But the signage certainly does though.

Is there a reason why only the southern half of Loop 286 is marked on TM?
These routes were drafted based in large part on the designation files. Wasn't much GMSV in the process, as checking everything would just be too time consuming.

Adm. Auth., dated 05/28/1969; Adm. Circ. 035-1969, dated 06/01/1969

From US 82 near west city limit of Paris, southeastward, eastward, and northward to US 271 and BU
271-B. (Lamar County)  Section from US 271 northward, westward, and southward to US 82 near
west city limit of Paris transferred to US's 82 and 271.

Sometimes changes show up in the designation files without ever happening on the ground. This may be one of those cases.
Also, note how this item doesn't mention a minute order. Is that significant?

If we go back to the 1957 description, that matches what's signed & in OSM.

Barring that potential reason, I suggest that Loop 286 should be extended on TM over the northern half of the Paris loop.
Changed to match the 1957 description: Point order reversed, and extended at both ends to FM79.
