FL: Hart Bridge Expressway
« on: July 06, 2025, 08:09:15 pm »
I traveled some of Gator Bowl Blvd today around the east side of the Panthers stadium and over to N Georgia St.  Did I travel some of HartExpy?  It looks like I did.  If so, we should have a point at GeoSt.  However, I don't recall seeing anything indicating that I was on anything with the name "Hart" in it.  It was just Gator Bowl Blvd.

You traveled on an alignment of former elevated expressway that is no-more.
See historical GSV of that area from 2019.

I was honestly just waiting till they finished all of the construction in that area just in-case they decided to sign FL-228 there.

Seeing this shield here, I might extend it some, but I need to look at the area some more.  Do you recall any other FL-228 signage in that area?

Oh shit, I just found this gem, FL-228 signage @ FL-109 for the first time ever!  I think I might have to demote the Hart file totally and just fully extend FL-228.

And here's the EB signage.

They installed this signage between Apr '24 & Feb '25!

I honestly never thought I'd see the day this part of FL-228 being signed past 'downtown'.

Not signed yet as of Mar '25 from US-90.  But does show the 'Hart Expressway' name still.

I thought FL 228 was being fully decommissioned east of Downtown Jacksonville....

I'll have to look more in to the GIS data later on this after I download the current files.

That wouldn't make any sense.

Agreed, but I do remember it being mentioned back when the Hart Bridge Expressway project was going on.

Ok, finally have recent GIS data from FDOT.

They do show a gap between US-1/US-90 & US-1Alt for FL-228.  So, if I add a 'signed' segment of FL-228 along the Hart Expressway, it will only be from where US-1 Alt leaves the bridge to go north over to US-90 (Beach Blvd).  Or maybe I'll just leave out the part along US-1 Alt (which includes the bridge), I'm not sure still.

It's interesting that FDOT shows the 'end' of FL-228 along US-1/90 being @ the one-way pair of Duval/Monroe.  However, signage as of March '25, shows it to be using Adams/Forsyth instead.

But then again, there's this set of signs on Monroe (it's 1 of 3 separate sets)......  But there's never been signage on US-1/90 to use Monroe for FL-228, only Forsyth.

But, then again, this is FDOT we're talking about.  There's still a US-17 shield in Downtown several years after the reroute onto I-10/95 in that area to bypass it.....  However, we did finally get FL-5 signed when they properly moved US-1/90 onto I-95 there in the Overland Bridge area to match the AASHTO log.  So, we should just take our W's where we can get them. :)
