WV: WV817 north end

This is the last sign on WV 817 northbound, as it exits US 35 just south of Point Pleasant. Where it goes after it turns right is a mystery. There are no signs along Old US 35 through Harrison to WV 2, the logical route, nor are there any signs on WV 2. WVDOH maps don't show it on that road either.

Appreciate you posting this.  Gotta love how WVDOH loves to mess around with their signage sometimes (see WV-115).

Yeah, I guess so.  We can revisit this topic when/if WVDOH signs WV-817 along the old US-35 route, shows up on their maps, or signage shows up @ WV-2.

Digging this thread back up from the grave, but I think we now know why WV did what they did.

While doing the cleanup for WV-817 for the 'overhaul' project, I discovered that WVDOH decided to build a brand new highway for WV-817 between the 'US35_HenS' & 'US35_HenN' points completely removing it from the US-35 alignment.  It's so new that OSM, Google, Bing, everybody doesn't know about it (been open since at least May '18 per StreetView).

Fun part is that even though Google was on WV-2 in that area around the same time, it seems WVDOH still didn't add any signage at that intersection.....   So, you could say we have another 'WV-115 on our hands where signage from beyond one intersection says it continues, but there's no corresponding signage showing where it's end is.......  I HATE YOU WVDOH!!! lol.

And the fun continues...  Looked up the Mason County maps from WVDOH's website, and they don't even show the new routing, even though the road info on it is dated as of June '18 and StreetView shows it open in May '18.....

So, what to do here......
1) At minimum, reroute WV-817 off of US-35 at it's end between those two intersections.
2) Take a leap of faith and extend WV-817 all the way to WV-2 while also doing #1.

Decisions, decisions.....

Anybody have any comments?  Main reason I'm considering Option #2 is because of this clear 'NB WV-817' shield beyond the intersection.

Might as well extend it to WV 2. There's nowhere else it could reasonably be expected to go.

No, I haven't.  Might consider doing it sooner or later though.

Just wanted to mentioned that StreetView was 'finally' on the route back in September '19.

No WV-817 shields in Henderson or @ WV-2 still.  No SB WV-817 shields at all till after the intersection with US-35.  This is the only WV-817 shield along the old US-35 road into Henderson.
