As the only state/provincial system left to draft in the U.S. and Canada, I'd love to see this system get some priority.  Froggie, do you think this will be a priority for you in the near term, and if not, would you be willing to accept some help in drafting this if someone's willing to do it?

My initial (long-ago) plan was to get Alabama wrapped up before diving head-first into Mississippi.  That plan's been in limbo since Alabama hasn't been reviewed yet.  I can restart work on Mississippi (which has also included updating the Interstate and US lists) even though Alabama isn't done.

One thing that would help would be to update which 700/800/900-series routes are signed, as well as standalone/separated segments of existing routes that are locally maintained (i.e. MS 609 north of I-10 in Jackson County).  Mike had did much of this upthread, but that was also 4 years ago and there may have been some changes since then.

Because Mississippi has some big GMSV holes as far as recent coverage.  Much of the state's coverage still dates back to 2008-09.  GMSV also has a tendency to not go down some of these lesser roadways...the type these 7xx-9xx route numbers are most likely to be on.


Here, it gets murky, because Mississippi is by far not the only state that has such state-designated but locally-maintained routes.  This was before your time, but it was a big sticking point for getting Vermont activated on the old CHM.  A number of NYS routes are also locally-maintained.

Heh, I never realized that MS had so many locally-maintained routes. Local/county maintenance is pretty common in most of the New England states, NY, and NJ, but mostly unheard of elsewhere outside of large cities (i.e. Ohio, where the large cities maintain their own roads, but nobody else does). VT is just unique because extended sections of local maintenance get a different shield, but it's not unusual for a state route in NY to be co-posted as a county route (indeed, I have purposely featured such routes on both road meets I have hosted).

A couple of field updates from a trip to Natchez:

The MS 930/932 duplex in Natchez is signed as MS 930 only on both ends; it is a north-south route. There were no MS 932 signs. I didn't get a chance to check the other 9xx routes in town since I was a passenger on the ride.

MS 818 in Port Gibson is listed as locally maintained. Scratch that one off the to-do list.

The west end of MS 888 (Roosevelt State Park off MS 13 near Morton) is odd. The MDOT maintenance is at the state park sign by the overlook turn in (MDOT is repaving it to that spot), but the only eastbound shield is just east of the park gate.

I'm planning a trip to Mississippi between Tupelo and Meridian first weekend in June if you need validation on any signs in the field, though looking at my route, looks like 3xx and 4xx are the highest number routes I'll be on, at least that I can see on OpenStreetMap.

The short 7xx (northern MS), 8xx (central MS), and 9xx (southern MS) routes are the ones that are questionable. Upthread is a list if what is or isn't known based on streetview and field observations.
