BC: Route for BC 101 is wrong near Langdale
« on: October 27, 2016, 09:06:50 pm »
I noticed a while back that the route for BC 101 is incorrect in the highway browser. It does not go through Gibsons, but rather around it. The way it's shown in OSM is the correct routing. Basically, when you get off the ferry at Langdale, you continue going straight rather than turning left onto Marine Drive to get on Hwy 101 northbound towards Sechelt and Powell River. You go up the hill and then turn left onto Stewart Road, then right on North Road, and then a right onto Gibsons Way. AFAIK, the rest of the route for 101 is correct in the highway browser; it's just the stretch around Gibsons that's wrong. If you could fix this, that would be great; thanks!!  :)

Thanks. Is this due to a recent change in the route, or has it been this way for a long time? Just trying to confirm that when I followed BC 101 between the ferry terminals in 2012, I drove on the route specified above, rather than the one once in the HB.

I was in too much of a hurry to catch the ferry to Horseshoe Bay, to remember how exactly I got there, so I was just following the BC 101 signs wherever they were in 2012.

Most likely what I drafted from Google Maps was incorrect all along. That was back in 2006, if memory serves.

It was definitely one of the 'old school' routes when I changed it. You know the sort of thing - shape points for every minor curve, etc. When I drafted the rest of the canbc system, I mostly left the already-drafted routes alone (though did start tweaking them to be more in line with current shaping rules, etc).

Google Maps still shows some state routes in Washington that were removed from the state highway system in 1991, like SR 209 and SR 603.

No surprise there. It's one of the benefits of our switchover to OSM.
