VA, US 11: Point Error at VA 262 north of Staunton
« on: April 05, 2017, 09:05:46 pm »
The point on US 11 at VA 262 north of Staunton is labeled as US 250 Trk instead for VA 262.  I believe that this should be VA262_N while the current VA 262 becomes a hidden label replaced with VA262_S.

I think the label name is correct because US250TrkSta is concurrent to VA262. If you agree, please mark the thread "topic solved". Thanks.

This one should be left for Mike.  VA 262 is a freeway and expressway loop of the city of Staunton, which IMO means that it should be priority.

US routes are higher order than state routes though, and thus will usually get the not WRT point labeling.
But yeah, best left for Mike though.

The original name for this waypoint (still used as a hidden name) was VA262/US250Trk_W and the newer US250Trk_W name was already installed before conversion from the old website in 2015, so I don't know who/why it was changed.

I'm inclined to leave it be...

Mainline US routes are. I don't think we've ever established for TM if auxiliary (especially Truck) routes are higher order.  My personal inclination is "no", especially since "Truck" isn't even an AASHTO-approved auxiliary.  Truck US routes are designated and posted purely at the state level, which to me makes them no higher than state routes.

Personally, in this case, 262 is the better known designation, so I'd go with VA262.

I checked GMSV and VA 262 is prominently posted (unlike VA 261) so I went ahead and changed the waypoint to VA262_N

Don't forget the AASHTO did fully approve the US-19 Truck here in the Pittsburgh area and even have it in the log.  But I think that's the only example.

US 9 Truck in Delaware is also on the AASHTO approval list

Exceptions rather than the rule.  Their published policy on US routes does not have "Truck" as a type of auxiliary route.
