GA: US 1 bypass of Oak Park
« on: January 09, 2016, 05:54:19 pm »
I drove through Oak Park (just south of I-16) on Thursday. US 1 traffic has been moved to a new bypass around Oak Oark, as much as half a mile west of town, between GA 46 and the south city limits. At least the south end of the old route through town dead-ends in a cul-de-sac, so through traffic can't stay on the old route, and I doubt the old route will become a new US 1 business route.

There are two travel lanes southbound, and one northbound, on the new bypass. Construction is continuing to finish the project, so the reroute might not yet be "official", nor has GDOT sought AASHTO approval (assuming it thinks approval is needed). Also, online mapping hadn't caught up to the change last I looked, though some satellite imagery shows the bypass under construction.

One of the oldest topics on the forum, hiding away on the 6-Month+ Outlook board, page 2. :)
Is this still something that needs attention?

Looks like it; the HB still has US 1 going through Oak Park instead of around it.

Should this be moved to "Updates to Highway Data" then?

Yes, now that OSM at least has caught up to the change. The US 129 bypass of Gray, which is now also shown in OSM, is already in Updates to Highway Data.

Since GA just got dropped, do you want me to fix this quickly?

That'd require changes to GA 4 and GA 86, too. I'm not sure where the drafter of that in-dev (preview) system is on the GA state routes.

I'd say go ahead and make the changes to all the necessary files.

I can potentially pick up the GA state routes. I haven't done anything before (other than submit errors, changes, etc.), but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Thanks for offering. I don't have any problem with this, and welcome your assistance as long as others are ok with it (we need to get this system activated).

First thing you'd want to do is check this topic to see which issues raised in the peer review have been addressed. Many of the items were posted after theFXexpert disappeared.

So am I correct that if I traveled through there on what was US 1 that I should now have a gap in US 1, but should probably add the US1 to HarSt segment so I get that little piece of Georgia 86 that used to be concurrent with US 1 through Oak Park?

Sometimes I'll load data from an older version in the commit history into WPTedit.
Did you try that and it's not sufficient to answer your question? (I haven't looked at any of this on the map myself.)

I think the issue was fixed by the_spui_ninja, wasn't it? Only partial fix?

btw: ntallyn, there are more open GA issues if you wanna be the future maintainer of Georgia...
