FL: FL 56 extension open
« on: July 10, 2019, 03:26:23 pm »
Just got back from driving the newly opened six mile extension of Florida State Road 56 from Meadow Pointe Boulevard east to U.S. 301 at Zephyrhills.

The road opened by 11 this morning:

BREAKING: The new six-mile, State Road 56 extension in #PascoCounty (which also includes a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail) is now officially OPEN to the public! Bike, walk, and drive safely! 🚗🚴‍♂️🏃‍♀️

There is even an end shield posted at U.S. 301:

Ty for the heads up.  I see it's already in OSM as well.  So, should be straight forward to add in my next FL update.

NP! When I drove it I was running Waze and it was also already added there.

With the SR 56 extension opened, based upon the original plans, FDOT will eventually decommission the state maintained portion of SR 581 between SR 56 and SR 54. Will make a post if/when that happens.

Further north in Pasco County, SR 52 will be realigned to bypass St. Leo east into Dade City in the future as well.

If usafl isn't activated before those happen, LMK in that thread. ;)
