FL: US 301 Alt - Starke Bypass
« on: September 18, 2019, 08:45:58 am »
JP Nasiatka and I rode up to Starke yesterday to check out the newly opened bypass for U.S. 301 in Bradford County, Florida. The 7.3 mile long freeway is signed as U.S. 301 ALT with truck route banners/references as well. U.S. 301 remains along its arterial alignment through Starke to the east. Peculiarly, there are U.S. 301 Business shields at both ends. After driving the bypass in both directions, we saw SR 100 Business shields along each off-ramp, so the business banners appear to be an attempt at directing motorists back into Starke to patronize local area businesses.

There are diamond interchanges with both SR 100 and SR 16. U.S. 301 ALT passes over both CR 100A and CR 229 with no access. U.S. 301 was also realigned to tie into the bypass ends at new signalized intersections.

We photographed both directions, and I can post those at AARoads if anyone needs them or wants to see the new freeway.

Would differently love to see the signage, especially one of the shields along the route. :)

Posted photos covering both directions on the site. We also covered SR 16 and SR 100 leading to the freeway. Since there were two different contractors, the control cities vary between the two exchanges: Ocala/Baldwin on SR 16 and Gainesville/Jacksonville on SR 100.

I hope this is the closest to seeing an ALT TRUCK route outside of PA.

Well, those little 'Truck Route' banners I don't think qualify it as a 'Truck Route' for the site.  So, just a normal 'ALT' route based on the pictures Alex posted.

That one does not really count as it is actually a Truck Route of an Alternate Route.  I was referring to more of the truck routes created so that they avoid weight-restricted bridges in PennDOT District 6 (such as this one).  I have no idea why District 6 decided to call them Alternate Truck Routes instead of just Truck Routes.

Had a little free time this morning, so I quickly knocked out this update.

Excellent, I'll update my .list file to be the first to add it!
Now if you could add the Florida SR 56 extension east to US 301 in Pasco County from July. ;)

I hope this is the closest to seeing an ALT TRUCK route outside of PA.

At one point, ALT VT 100 in Morrisville was signed as ALT TRUCK VT 100.  It has since been changed to ALT VT 100 TRUCK ROUTE.
