GU: Unsigned Routes
« on: February 17, 2020, 08:19:55 pm »
Did some driving around Guam in December and clinched the highway system. There were several routes in the HB that were unsigned, at least as of December 2019, though I drove them anyway.

Guam is unusual in that there aren't really reassurance shields, but intersections of the routes are signed. I thoroughly checked intersections at the start/end of the highway, as applicable.

GU3A was unsigned.
GU8 was also unsigned.
GU24A was unsigned, though a mention was made of it on a variable construction sign.

I think it was assumed that these signs disappeared due to natural disaster.

I think it was assumed that these signs disappeared due to natural disaster.

Ok. I did see other references to GU-3A and GU-24A in local maps or variable signs, just no signs whatsoever at any intersections. For GU-8, there was no signage east of GU-16 anywhere, even though it seemed that the signs at the GU-8/10/16 intersection were all new.

No problem with keeping the routes in there if you want to wait to see if signs are reposted. Just wanted to report from the field.

Apologies for confusion with posting in the wrong forum originally.

We have no specific maintainer for GU. That means, the decision is on all interested users.

We do (minimum) have three options:
  • Anyone removes GU3A, GU8 and GU24A which were unsigned back in Dec 2019 after the natural disaster, and close the topic
  • Keep routes as-is and close the topic
  • Wait another 3+ years

Thoughts?

Given conversation in another thread, I'd lean towards leaving as-is for now unless there's been some official indication that the routes were officially removed.

Though speaking from my own Guam experience (1996 and 2007), their signage left a lot to be desired to begin with...
