PA: PA46 and PA146 truck routes
« on: July 01, 2020, 05:42:10 pm »
While clinching part of US 6 today I noticed that there's a concurrent Truck PA 146 that is not in the HB.  Apologies if this one is mentioned before, but I thought I'd bring it up since I noticed it.

My guess is that the signs were never taken down.  The route was for this weight-restricted bridge that was replaced around 2017.

I have no plans on adding this one.

Having said that, part of this route (US 6 in Smethport) was a part of the 2018 Salamanca meet Tour.

Interesting.  I must have missed it during the Salamanca meet tour.  I normally don't pay huge attention to overlaps (especially with truck routes) and just sort it out when I update my .list (and may stop bothering, now that the interactive tool is available; the main reason I included overlapped routes before was to make it easier to update should I ever drive on more of the route, which is no longer applicable, thought the secondary reason to keep things consistent still would be), but this one must have stuck in my mind for some reason.

PA: PA46 and PA146 truck routes

I discovered two truck routes while driving through northern PA yesterday:

PA 46 Truck: Uses PA 120, PA 155, and US 6 between the southern terminus of PA 46 and Smethport. South end, turn onto PA 155, along 6/155 concurrency, north end.
PA 146 Truck: bypasses all of PA 146 using US 6 and PA 46 between the two termini. West end, east end GSV too old to show, turn onto PA 46 is same as north end of PA 46 TRUCK.

Guess I should have checked existing topic, because I just posted about this and the 46 truck route in a new topic. 46 has a very well-posted truck restriction south of US 6 in addition to the truck route.

I merged cl94's new topic with the existing topic.

The PA 46 TRUCK itself is for this weight-restricted bridge that was replaced in 2017

The other weight restriction you are referring to is the 10 Ton Weight Limit that is very common on PA Routes especially in northern PA.  I believe that these came about as a result of trucks causing pavement damage on these roads while doing fracking, but I am not 100% sure on this.

Having said that, I am not inclined to include PA 46 TRUCK either.  I have not found any Truck Routes posted specifically due to the 10 Ton Weight Limit.  (PA 155 has it for the record.)

Just curious, but would this route be justified?

Seems to be well posted, but also seems to be a 'bridge' detour for trucks as well.

Seems there's also a Truck PA-146 in the area, but I haven't figured out it's route yet, but guessing it's just US-6 to PA-46 on either side of the short route.

I covered my position on these truck routes in the below thread from earlier this year.  The simple answer is that I am not planning to add these.

Ok, I'll just merge this thread with that one then.  Was just a spur of the moment post.
