OH: TRK OH 100 & 231, Tiffin
« on: July 06, 2020, 08:14:36 pm »
I guess Mapcat (at least) saw the same sign tree, @ OH 53 & US 224, outside of Tiffin, that I did...

(For what it's worth, Dave, I didn't see any other mention of a Truck OH 231, or Truck OH 100 (besides the one right next to the RR overpass) in Tiffin during my visit last month)
That said, I know Mapcat already added the truck routes to Ohio's state route collection, however, the mileage doesn't seem to be added to the collection. The total miles for Ohio are still at 19,421.3 and it should be at 19,430.23. (my personal miles traveled, in Ohio, went to 9955 on July 2nd, and didn't increase with the new routes added on July 4th)
Not sure what technical glitch occurred, but IMO, should be investigated.

If I'm seeing the situation accurately, the two new truck routes are entirely concurrent with existing Ohio State Routes.  Since concurrencies are not double-counted in stats totals, this should not change the total miles within the Ohio State Routes or the overall regional total for Ohio.

These Truck Routes must be very new (as 2019 GSV does not show them).  I do not remember seeing these when I drove this part of US 224 in February 2019.

I hate these particular truck routes more than I hate truck routes in general. The signs are only found at intersections along US 224. Once you've been directed onto 53, the signs stop. I asked the PR person from ODOT district 2 what happens after they turn the corner, and all she could come up with is "they're there to bypass a low bridge". This is stupid for two reasons, since (1) 231 does not pass under that bridge, and (2) 100 does, but there's already another truck route signed around it (still signed in June). So Tiffin has three separate truck routes for two state routes because of one bridge, which one of the state routes doesn't even pass under. A set of generic "truck route" signs would have made so much more sense.

Still not as stupid as Delaware, though.

She did say that she would make the sign team aware that there were no signs north of the 224/53 intersection, so maybe the routing will be clearer in the future.

As Jim said, there was no change in total mileage since they're concurrent with routes already in the system. But now you & 7-8 others have 2 additional clinches, so there's that.

I thought concurrencies were double counted (ala I-80/90)

While 50 miles on I-80/90 gives you 50 miles on both I-80 and I-90, it is the same 50 miles so you'll only have 50 miles added to you Ohio and Interstate system figures.

Here's another set of the Truck Route signs in Tiffin, taken in January (ah, those salad days):
