Forum software on MySQL 8.0

I'd like to upgrade the MySQL installation on TM's server from 5.7 to 8.0, but it is not clear if this is a good idea for the forum software (SMF).  This is mostly for @rickmastfan67 but I'm happy to hear of anyone's experiences upgrading the MySQL DB for a server running SMF from 5.7 to 8.0.
