QC: A-25 northern end
« on: September 04, 2016, 10:51:43 pm »
This seems to show A-25 ending at the traffic light, not at Exit 46: https://www.google.com/maps/@45.8921546,-73.660287,3a,75y,18.06h,90.08t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1swQllcLBH-hL4yVubAi9vlg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1

The additional segment is a little less than 1500m. Worth adding?

Shapefiles show the A-25 designation extending all the way to QC125_N/QC158_E.
While I didn't see any reassurance markers or a FIN sign north of Rang de la Riviere Sud, there's signage at:
1 2 3 4 5
I found the first SB reassurance marker a bit south of Rang de la Riviere Sud.

Let me follow up on this a little later. I missed mapcat's initial post, because at that time I was scrambling to get home from Montana, and wasn't always able to keep up with the forum.

One thing I noticed is that the QC 125 route file is missing a needed shaping point in the A-25 file, between A-25 exits 44 and 46 (which is why my map doesn't show that part of QC 125 as clinched). The fix for this can wait until I figure out A-25's north end, which might require additional changes to the QC 125 file.

Just from the advance FIN signage on NB QC 125/158, I'd put A-25's north end at Rang de la Riviere Sud/Rue Montcalm. There is A-25 signage on side roads north of there, but I would discount that, since Quebec is often sloppy about putting Vers ("To") banners above markers for routes that don't quite reach that intersection. That issue threw off Tim when he placed A-640's east end at QC 138, but he didn't catch the FIN marker north of there at the QC 344 intersection.

Autoroutes often but don't always end at at-grade intersections like the one with Rang de la Riviere Sud, so that's not inconsistent with the shapefiles. But the advance FIN sign mentioned above seems to disagree with the shapefiles, so I'd go with the sign.

If I put the A-25 north end at a new RueMon (or RangRivSud) point at the traffic light, that point would need to be added to the QC 125 and QC 158 route files. This would be in addition to adding the missing point in the QC 125 route file mentioned in my previous post.

@oscar: if you're waiting for me to do anything with the QC routes, please go ahead. As far as I'm concerned they're yours to do with what you wish.

I plan to edit the A-25 route file next week (busy with other stuff for the next few days). You then can make conforming edits to the QC 125 and QC 158 route files, or tell me to make the changes myself once the revised A-25 file is ready.

There are some Autoroutes with multiple at-grade intersections, correct?

Yes, which is what I meant by "not inconsistent with the shapefiles". A-740 (one at-grade in addition to the one at the end) and A-19 (multiple at-grades) come to mind.

Ah! So an end at QC125_N/QC158_E would also be not inconsistent with the shapefiles! 8)

There now is an A-25 reassurance marker on SB 125/158, north of Rang de la Riviere Sud. I was there this afternoon for a field check (part of a week-long road trip, to celebrate my apparently complete and successful recovery from eye surgery).

There still some inconsistent signage in the field, suggesting that Rang de la Riviere Sud is the endpoint. Quebec signage can be goofy at times. But I think my find tips the scales to putting A-25's north end at the northern QC 125/QC 158 junction.

I don't see a need for a waypoint at Rang de la Riviere Sud, would just add the northern QC 125/158 point.

Glad to hear that's turned out well, and that you're better and back on the road!

Pull request submitted this afternoon, to extend A-25 to the northern QC 125/158 junction.
