GA: Add Sugarloaf Parkway to usasf?
« on: November 21, 2021, 11:14:42 am »
Sugarloaf Parkway is a locally maintained highway in Gwinnett County. It is mostly expressway, but the easternmost part of it between GA 20 and US 29 is full freeway.

I would think this should be added to the usasf system, especially since the freeway segment is decently long (almost 6 miles), there are three intermediate interchanges along the freeway segment, and the similar nearby Ronald Reagan Parkway is already in the system.

I am not sure why you went with US29_E instead of plain US 29 or US29/316.

I seriously doubt that the Sugarloaf Parkway will ever be fully a freeway.  Am I correct on that?

FYI, long-term Gwinnet could extend further to north to I-85 and I-985 around Mall of Georgia area.  I'll have to go find link again, but the ROW is still owned by county as part of failed attempt to build an outer perimeter back in the 90's.  The interchange with GA 316 was supposed to have been the Outer Perimeter interchange.  Combination of NIMBY protests from residents and corruption exposed from politicians as they were purchasing hot land along proposed route killed project.  Shame too as Atlanta could really use as out loop freeway.  Now that land is all built-up through Forsyth County with very expensive houses.  They are widening GA 20 from Cartersville to Cumming as 6-lanes at least, but not the same.

Mostly because there is a second intersection with US29, even though that section isn't freeway.

Ok, I am going to let it go based on the discussion in this topic even though I would still prefer US29/316 (https://forum.travelmapping.net/index.php?topic=4776.msg26567#msg26567).
