IN: IN 28 and IN 19

INDOT has once again reached an agreement to turn a segment of state highway over to local control. IN 28 is now two separate segments, with the western segment ending at CR 560 W, and the eastern segment ending at IN 19.

IN 19 is also rerouted, bypassing downtown Tipton via Ash St and Park Rd.

Okay, thanks. Is signage already updated to show the truncation & reroute?

This deal just happened so I strongly doubt it's signed yet.

All right. I'll wait until I get confirmation from the field before making the adjustments.

I think that this is an update.  (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=7946.msg2796148#msg2796148)

I am not sure that this is enough to proceed.

No, but it's enough to confuse me. INDOT maps show that 28 has been relinquished between CR 560W (which is east of US 31) and IN 19. Division Rd is not a state highway according to the maps. The new routing of 19 is shown, so I'm comfortable adding that, but even the now-former 28 still has an alt name of SR 28. INDOT's inventory doesn't identify concurrencies, so I'm not expecting to see 28 shown on 31, 26, or 19, but I'd like something a bit more solid (pics are nice) before making a decision to reroute 28 instead of divide it in two.

I doubt I'll have a chance to visit the area before January.

There was some additional clarification from a local.

Quote
Observed Truck 28 East signs NB and SB on US 31 guiding east on Division Road.

Division Rd wouldn't show up on INDOT's inventory because they don't maintain bannered routes that aren't concurrent with another route.

Quote
No SR 28 shields on US 31 between SR 28 & SR 26.

SR 28 signs erected at the JCT of SR 19 & SR 26.

No additional SR 28 shields on the new route along SR 26 or SR 19 either (outside the junctions).

The second statement seems to indicate that 28 is continuous along that ridiculous routing.

Thanks for obtaining that. The aaroads thread says that the truck route signs are official state spec, so I'm comfortable adding that as well. Is it safe to assume there's no signage between 31 & CR 560W?

Never mind, I'll go out there next week.

But in the meantime I will assume the stub is known only to INDOT. https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/6216

So I checked it out today and now I am annoyed. From the east, everything looks as it's supposed to following the reroute. There's no sign of IN 28 west of 19. The truck route along Division Rd is also well signed, with "Truck" or "Trucks" tabs over the route markers, both on the route and approaching the junction along both 19 and 31. So, fine so far. One of the signs along the truck route was missing its auxiliary sign, but no worries, signage is hard. However, at the 28 westbound junction, all signage at the roundabouts shows 28 heading east and west from the interchange. The northbound exit sign on 31 is marked "28 WEST" but southbound it's just "28". And there's a lone 28 reassurance marker heading eastbound between the interchange and CR 560W, where INDOT's maintenance ends.

I did not travel north of Division Rd so I am assuming what was reported near Kokomo on aaroads (28 signed at IN 26's junctions with US 31 and IN 19) is correct.

I will reach out to INDOT's Greenfield district for information and make any needed changes based on what they tell me.

INDOT says that although the segment adjacent to the Stellantis plant is INDOT-maintained, it should not be signed, and they will remove those. So, nothing more to do here.
