That's better signed than almost every route in Reno/Sparks

^ NVDOT is weird on how it signs routes, such as with NV 880 posting the only sign at the dangling west end, rather than the more logical place where it intersects major route NV 445. Junction signage is spotty anywhere in Nevada's urban areas.

Almost as if NVDOT is more interested in marking its territory, rather than helping motorists navigate its system.

With stuff in the Reno area such as 880, I'll be able to field check most of it in the coming months as I'm moving out there in a matter of weeks. But yes, my impression at this point is that urban routes may or may not be signed well, but there is usually at least one sign.

If by the "log" you're referring to NVDOT's latest State Maintained Highways of Nevada, the entry for NV 880 (p. 185) says that route's west end is at Malapai Way, which is where the HB has it. Your suggested waypoint is less than 0.1 mile east of Malapai Way. I would stick with the Malapai Way intersection as the west endpoint.

This is kinda an odd case where state maintenance actually ends before the associated intersection.

I'd favor putting the endpoint at the pavement change myself for the sake of tidiness, but yes it is close enough that it's not going to make or break anyone's clinch.

How can I tell that the pavement change is the end of state maintenance, or that state maintenance ends before the Malapai Way intersection? GMSV shows no "end of state maintenance" sign, only some unclear pavement markings. Minor pavement changes (not like, say, where a paved road turns to gravel) don't necessarily coincide with change of maintenance, such as if repaving was needed for part of the route but not all the way to Malapai Way.

OK, weird. I must have been using an old log, because the current distance of 0.623 miles does go much closer to Malapi (not Malapai) Way. I wonder if this was an error introduced when the east end was realigned (the former length of 0.565 miles went to the pavement change), but if so it's consistently wrong. Disregard this; I eat ass.

I plan to field check 880 tomorrow because I need to be up that way. I'll see if there's anything on the ground to confirm things. Given the conditions on other routes like this in the Reno area, I'm inclined to believe the start/end of the marked shoulder is the east end of the route, which would correspond to the shield I'm seeing on GSV. However, GIS sends the thing to Malapai and, in typical NDOT urban route fashion, there is no end postmile.

I can confirm that what exists on GSV is all we have in the field. One shield near the west end and nothing else that indicates state ownership, not even a postmile.

Unless the pavement markings where the edge stripes end clearly indicate an end of state maintenance, I'll treat his as a no-build.

We'd be talking about 500 feet either way, so I agree with this. Unless NDOT decides to post an end postmile or something at a different location, which I wouldn't hold my breath for given how things are marked in the region.
