A bit late to the party, but I came across this update:
2022-07-04;(USA) North Carolina;I-85;nc.i085;Exits 174A and 174 labels needed to be swapped - alt labels not possible
Using 174A as an AltLabel is impossible, true; that label had to move.
174, though?
The eastern point could be
174B.
If an interchange has a letter-suffixed exit number in one direction only, usually keep the letter. If the letter is A, optionally drop it.
Plus it retains a nice continuous non-jumbled alphanumeric sequence.
I researched the .list files still using the 174 label using the
git blame feature, and every .list line in question dates to before this update entry.
Meaning everyone intends to use the old location of 174 here.
Here's what I suggest:
174A +174 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=36.024529&lon=-78.946810
17B http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=36.028659&lon=-78.935781
Meanwhile, for the .list I maintain for my parents, I'll just make the 85/501 handoff @ 176 & let concurrency detection work its magic!
