TX: I-45BLFer Potential Issue Concerning Loop 9 Connection
« on: January 12, 2025, 11:38:29 pm »
This is more of an issue relating to the incoming TXLp9 which is supposed to open later this year, but it directly impacts I-45BLFer, so I thought that I would bring it up to see if it is an issue or non-issue. I visited the current northern terminus of I-45BLFer because Loop 9 shields were up and I went to investigate. Interestingly, I found that Loop 9 will not terminate at I-45 here (at the blue point below), but instead at I-45 Business at the frontage road based on street blade signage (at the green point below). This would necessitate a new point for I-45BLFer at the future Loop 9/I-45 Business intersection, at the green point on this map:

Green point: new eastern terminus of Loop 9 when it opens
Blue point: existing northern terminus of I-45BLFer

As it stands, I see two potential ways of going about this:

1. Add a new waypoint titled TXLp9 at the green point I mentioned. This would be more technically correct, but it would create an awkward situation with how the SB off ramp of I-45 ties into the intersection, and it would be temporary (given that Loop 9 will be extended in a few years), leading to a pretty useless point by then. But we do have precedent for routes ending at a frontage road (LA 3212, for example)

2. Fudge the future endpoint of TX Loop 9 (when it opens) over to the current I-45BLFer northern terminus (the blue point above). Less technically correct, but it complies better with 1PPI.

This could be either an issue or a non-issue. I just thought that I would inform y'all about it so you can make a better judgment call concerning the situation.

I don't think this would count as a 1PPI.  This would more be like be like US-522 with how it intersects with I-81 exit 313 in VA, where US-17 & US-50 are also involved.  2 points would be completely justified here, especially is TX Loop 9 is ending 'before' the interchange with I-45.
