ME: US 2A in Houlton
« on: June 19, 2025, 09:51:07 pm »
The HB has US 2A following Military Street, but signage appears to have it follow Bangor Street.  US 1 and US 2 sign it in both directions, and it has a normal reassurance shield/directional banner (in contract to this signage on Military Street).  Street view also doesn't show any signage where the HB has it turn onto Military Street from Bangor Street.

https://www.maine.gov/mdot/mapviewer/ Under Map Layers -> User Layers -> Roadway Characteristics -> Context Classification, it shows that bit of Military St as having a Primary Route Name of 2A, and that first block of Bangor St has having a Primary Route Name of RD INV 03 20004. So the signs may be wrong, perhaps an effort to redirect a little business traffic along there.

If only they had an end sign on either one to help clarify.  Could the intersection have been reconfigured at some point with MEDOT not remembering to move the route in the dataset?

Heard back from MEDOT.  Looks like no build on this one:

Your questions regarding routed highways in Houlton was forwarded to me.  I’ve attached a map below showing the formal routes in Houlton.  I believe this is similar to what you’ve seen on MapViewer.  We’ll review signage in the area to see if we can make improvements to minimize confusion.  Hopefully this answers your question.  Please let me know if you have additional questions.

The map matches the routing in the HB.
