First mile of SR 509 Expressway opens
The first mile of the new SR 509 Expressway in SeaTac opens at 5:09 a.m. Saturday, June 28. The first mile stretches between I-5 and 24th Avenue South. The first mile features two lanes in each direction. Northbound I-5 drivers will exit to a large fly-over ramp that connects to the expressway. Until the next section of the expressway opens, drivers will exit at 24th Avenue South. Travelers can also enter the expressway from 24th Avenue South and travel southeast to merge onto southbound I-5. The new expressway will be tolled beginning in the fall. Tolling based on time of day will be used to help manage congestion on the new corridor. Toll funding will also help pay for construction and ongoing maintenance.

Now, is WA-509 getting a full reroute, or is this going to be a 'spur' route for it?

Good question. I haven't seen any recordings yet, I'll keep an eye to see if there's any.

The plan, as I understand it, is that this new freeway will be signed as part of the SR 509 mainline once the second section to South 188th Street is opened in a few years. Until then, there is no signing (and right now the BGS on I-5 just says 24th Avenue South).

SR 509 Spur is a separate corridor that will connect I-5 / SR 167 to SR 509 near the Port of Tacoma.

Ok, then all we'd need is the new I-5 exit number I guess.

Sadly, no view of the signage on I-5 to get the exit number.

I stayed a hotel adjacent to the SR 509 expressway and took a look at it from the SR 99 (International Boulevard) bridge above it. Unsurprising, the south end has no exit number, the overhead I could see simply showed I-5 South Left Lane - SR 516 Both Lanes. There was no visible signage for 24th Avenue S, so no exit number at this time.

I also did not get the opportunity to drive it as tolling commenced on September 29, and we did not buy the expensive toll collection option Avis offered on our rental car.

Adding to the GSV link posted previously, the concealed portion of the overhead for Exit 150 shows Toll Road:
