CO: US 36/US 34 Business Estes Park
« on: July 28, 2025, 10:43:40 am »
While doing some OpenStreetMap cleanup in northern Colorado, I noticed that US 36 in downtown got turned into a loop (https://www.estesparknews.com/featured_articles/article_4de1ec5e-832f-11ef-9fb9-27a705174553.html for the best article I could find).

At first, all I thought that this would need would be moving the junction between 36 and 34 Business to the halfway point on Elkhorn. But now, I'm not sure exactly what eastbound 34 Business does in this configuration...

Would the best thing be to move the junction point to the center of the loop (roughly over the post office)?

This reminds me of the Albany Skyway project where we ended up doing nothing based on how US 9 NB was rerouted.  I definitely would not put the point in the center of the post office, but I could see moving the Elkhorn Ave point between Moraine Ave and Ivy Street.

Adding a point on US 36 at the roundabout at the south end of the loop could be useful just to split the difference there.

That's what I was originally thinking of doing (along with other point cleanup in the area). If no one has any concerns with the eastbound Business 34 routing, I'll just do that.
