Hopefully I get to visit my parents and clinch this in the upcoming weeks.

Drove it today, and cannot remember already if OldHigRd should be marked as closed or not.  Otherwise, the changes here look fine.

Should there be a separate point just west of where NC-186 leaves US-158 where the new alignment starts?

There's clearly a completely bypassed segment of road there that was turned over to local traffic so people could still access Vincent Loop Road.

Some people here might not wanna claim the start of the bypass on that end, and that point might be useful.
