Hawaii DOT has completed a bypass of a particularly congested part of HI 380 in Kahului. This provides tourists anxious to return their rental cars a more direct route to Maui's main airport, as well as local travelers yet another bypass of downtown Kahului (they now have three new or improved bypasses, two of them unnumbered county roads). The new route has been designated from the outset as HI 3800, but when I was there last month, it was confusingly signed as part of HI 380, and unofficial videos had made it seem there was no route signage at all.
The DOT has confirmed that the new Airport Access Rd. will in a few weeks be re-signed as HI 3800. The Dairy Rd. segment of HI 380 (including part of the old airport access) will be unaffected, though I suspect HI 380 will eventually be truncated, with Dairy Rd. turned over to Maui County.
I'm inclined to add HI 3800 to the HB as soon as I can get the new and changed files ready, without waiting for the new signs to be erected. The HI 380 route file will remain unchanged, except for a waypoint relabel (labels in use retained) at its intersection with HI 3800.
EDIT: HI 3800 is now in the HB.
