TX: I-14 exit numbers
« on: September 23, 2018, 03:49:19 am »
Since I don't think it will be gaining any 'real' exit numbers any time soon and just use US-190's already posted #'s, do we think it's time to have them added to the file to clean up the labels?

EDIT: StreetView now has numbers.

Hm. What are the chances I-14 could be extended farther west, thus requiring a change in exit numbering?

I haven't heard of any possible extension any time soon.  If there's any new parts of I-14, I don't see them coming online in the next 5 years to be honest.

In OSM, I see exit numbers that correspond to US190's mileage, on the I-14 segment only.
I see no exit numbers in GMSV.
Any confirmation that these are now signed in the field?

I don't have any field signage, since I've never been to TX.  Was mostly going on what was shown in OSM.

mdroads added the exit numbers to OSM for I-14.  Don't know if he field checked them, as there's no info in his changesets saying how he got them.

Mike Pruett, I presume?
I may ask over at AARoads.

I assume so unless somebody else is using his name on OSM.

The linked OSM changeset is from April 2018, and GMSV from June 2018 shows no exit numbers.

Can also verify personally that when I drove it in June 2017 there were no exit numbers.

I think we can safely conclude that at the very least a gun was jumped here.

Going to mark this solved in that case. If/when exit numbers do appear in the field in the future, we can revisit this topic or open a new one.

I drove I-14 today.  It has exit numbers. They appear to be accurate in OSM.

It's interesting that when you get to the eastern end, there's a numbered exit for I-35 South, but no signage whatsoever that I-14 is ending and you are about to merge onto I-35 North if you don't take that exit.

Last I had seen, not all of them were visible in GMSV.
Can we verify they're all accurate?

I didn't notice until I got back to the hotel that we didn't have its exit numbers, so I didn't pay any attention to them.  I probably have pictures of 3 or 4 on my camera.

This may have what I need...
Edit: Grr, nope. Numbers disappear after 289.

Worth noting that the exit numbers are based on US190's mileage.

I drove I-14 today.  It has exit numbers. They appear to be accurate in OSM.
It substitutes 298 for 297. ;)
I've seen enough inaccuracies in TX exit numbering on OSM that I hesitate to trust it.
On the positive side, I can use pavement markings like in the link to verify every remaining exit number except for...

It's interesting that when you get to the eastern end, there's a numbered exit for I-35 South, but no signage whatsoever that I-14 is ending and you are about to merge onto I-35 North if you don't take that exit.
301? The only freeway->freeway movement available is to I-35 N. The E->S movement must be done via frontage rd; that's likely a factor.
Sounds like the numbered exits have made it all the way east, then?

I probably have pictures of 3 or 4 on my camera.
If this is a terminus, maybe a higher probability you have a pic of this one? :D
If not.... I guess just one unconfirmed exit needn't hold me back?
