NC: Truck Route Found in Robersonville
« on: July 07, 2019, 10:24:06 am »
I thought I had spotted this before when we passed through Robersonville to get NC 903 between it and Greenville.  It had been bugging me so we finally got off the main US 64 and went back through town and drove and confirmed a truck route through Robersonville.  Heading south on NC 903, as we approached the stoplight at US 64 Alt, we saw a NC 903 Truck South sign pointing to the left.  It takes you over one block to Grimes Street instead of going straight through the rundown downtown area.  It goes down three blocks to 3rd St by Ann's House of Nuts before returning back to NC 903.  Weirdly, the railroad crossing isn't signalized like on the main 903 but I guess they assume trucks will slow down and stop for the railroad normally.

Some relevant GSV looks.

Also attaching a screenshot of Google Maps where I drew in the route.  And, wow, 192 KB is a tiny file size.  The PNG was too big, but luckily it fit as JPG.

Grandma’s house was directly on US 64 a little west of Jamesville.

Then I've driven by her house tons of times.  I'm originally from Plymouth and my parents are still there.  And I have relatives in Williamston and Robersonville.

Just noticed that when the truck route point was added to NC-903's file, it was added out-of-order in that file, causing a datacheck error & having extra mileage added to the route.

Code: [Select]
nc.nc903 +x80,US64Alt,NC903Trk_S SHARP_ANGLE 177.11 nc.nc903;+x80;US64Alt;NC903Trk_S;SHARP_ANGLE;177.11
nc.nc903 US64Alt,NC903Trk_S,US64 SHARP_ANGLE 167.13 nc.nc903;US64Alt;NC903Trk_S;US64;SHARP_ANGLE;167.13

The 'NC903Trk_S' point was added after the 'US64Alt' point in NC-903's file instead of before it.  Needs a fix asap.

On a side note for NC903's file, shouldn't the 'US64' point be either 'US13/64' or 'US64/13'?  Seems odd to neglect a major US Highway in that label.

It looks like this was fixed in last night's update.  (https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/commit/68a1d36bc552d74c9c895d5bf68d1afcd225f6e3)

I agree.  I would go with US64/13 (until I-87 eventually makes this irrelevant).  This change was not included.

I didn't change this because all 4 other primary routes that intersect this freeway label it as US 64 only.

Good point.  I thought about that a bit with my PA routes while thinking about this.  Keeping it as-is is fine for consistency.

I'll let rickmastfan67 mark it as solved since he brought it up.
