DE: DE 1 temporary exit near Odessa c. 2002
« on: June 06, 2021, 04:59:40 pm »
Around 2002, DE 1 wasn't fully complete between Dover and Odessa. On returning from a family trip then, I remember the temporary end going over US 13 and then turning onto it and somehow getting back onto the freeway but didn't remember going through Odessa with the 35 mph strict speed limit. In checking Historic Aerials (link), I see that the interchange at exit 119 shows a free-flow onto US 13 from the open DE 1 (but I remember waiting in traffic making a left turn onto it, but that's going off a 12-year-old's memory from 19 years ago and there's already points there for both) and a free-flow interchange from US 13 onto DE 1 in the vicinity of Chestnut Lane, north of Old State Road.

I'm not sure if it's worth it to create even a hidden point at this point for DE 1 since it would have only been utilized between 1999 and 2003 per Wiki, US 13 here probably could be left alone using OldStaRd as the waypoint for it. It might even be moot if I'm the only one that would utilize it as I plan to redo DE 1 around here this summer. Thoughts?

The best solution here IMO is to add *OldUS13 for DE 1 around Chestnut Lane.  (https://github.com/TravelMapping/HighwayData/pull/4862)

I believe that I will leave US 13 as-is as it looked like you had to use Harris Rd (HarRd) to stay on US 13 SB anyway.  Also Chestnut Lane (CheLn) is practically a neighborhood street, and I cannot even use it to help me keep the line in Mapview east of DE 1 in OSM.

What I recall from the time (I started traveling the Delmarva in late 2001) is that it was seamless to/from the freeway sections at both ends of the temporary 1/13 concurrency.  And Markkos is correct...you did have to turn onto Harris Rd to stay on SB 13 during the construction.

At the south end, where the transition was located is technically within the present-day interchange footprint so one could argue that 1PPI is in play and so just use the existing interchange point.

I agree with froggie here.  There is no reason for me to do anything there.
