IL: IL-72 issues
« on: July 29, 2022, 05:42:02 pm »
Just taking a random look at the route, and noticed a few possible issues that should be addressed.

(Going West -> East)

1. I think there should be a point @ CR34 just to the East of GalRd.  Why?  Because it's a direct connection down to I-90 Exit #52.  While I couldn't find a mention of I-90 at that intersection, I think it's well within reasonable range to add the point.
2. Recommend a point at Beverly Road between 'IL25' & 'IL59'.  Why?  Direct connection down to I-90 Exit 58.
3. TouAve_E needs a recenter.
4. I-90 -> I-90(76)
5. DevAve -> I-90   --  Also, this needs to be synced with I-90 for a graph connection.  If you want to keep the DevAve label, I guess that could work, but we do need the graph connection here for I-90.
6. We need a point for either North Canfield Avenue, or I-90(80) (no graph connection here).  Reason is because IL-72 is only on the northern side road of I-90 here.  If you want to use the I-90 ramp, recommend here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=41.984249&lon=-87.821456.
7. Need a separate point for I-90(81A).  Recommend here:
Code: [Select]
I-90(81A) http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=41.981925&lon=-87.810518
8. IL-72 shouldn't have a graph connection here with I-90.  It should only have a graph connection with IL-43.  So, I recommend the following changes below.  Thankfully, no changes here to I-90 will be necessary.  Only changes to IL-72 & IL-43 needed.
IL-72:
Code: [Select]
IL43 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=41.981087&lon=-87.806962IL-43:
Code: [Select]
IL72 http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=41.981087&lon=-87.806962  No changes to the I-90 point on IL-43 will be needed.

3. TouAve_E needs a recenter.
Technically, the present point is where Touhy Avenue and 72 split. I could see renaming the point to LeeSt and putting it in the intersection in the middle of the curve.

If I move the location of the "I-90" point that will mess up list files with the point you mentioned immediately above. Had the DevAve label on I-90 been closer to where the ramp meets the mainline, I would've disagreed totally on needing a "graph connection." I kind of wonder if/how that ramp is going to last, since toll plazas have been discontinued for online tolling and there's just the one open lane FOR the traffic from that ramp.

Would it be overkill to also put points on Oriole Avenue at the north and south bridge junctions? I laid in your points and the two combined do "jump" the road from one side of I-90 to the other but I wonder if more specificity is called for in this case.

I can see adjusting that. The intersection is right close, but the signs do say "Jct 72" coming south on 43 past 90.

I'm betting that ramp will survive, mainly since there isn't another WB access point onto I-90 till Exit #73, and it's almost 4 miles away.  Plus they'll probably reconfigure that area to cut down on the now wasted space into a more traditional on-ramp I bet.

If I was doing IL, I might do that @ Oriole Ave (case in point, look at FL-46 playing tag with FL-429 now), but didn't want to mention it, as I wouldn't have an issue if it the line for the route just crossed over I-90 in that area, as long as no multiplex got accidentally added.

I mainly brought this up due to how we've dealt with similar cases in other states.  US-522 @ I-81 Exit 313 is a similar one like this the pops into my mind, but IL-19 is lacking the direct ramps to I-90 on one end of the interchange, unlike the US-522 example.

All the changes look good, except that #2 was missed.

That and the 'new' I-490 point should be marked as hidden, and shouldn't be a visible point till I-490 is opened, which isn't suppose to be till (?)2026.
