GA: Missing spur route
« on: August 21, 2025, 10:50:13 pm »
The database appears to be missing a spur route of Georgia State Road 25, designated as Georgia State Route 25 Spur E. This route is also known as the F.J. Torras Causeway and links Brunswick and St. Simons Island.

Wiki article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F.J._Torras_Causeway
GDOT map - https://www.dot.ga.gov/DriveSmart/MapsData/Documents/CountyMaps/Glynn.pdf
Google Street View of signage - https://maps.app.goo.gl/YzyjcprGQdSNo9do8

Looks like it should be 25SE, not 25 Spur? Unless I'm missing a source, Wikipedia seems to have made up the spur designation.

Signage per GSV, went up between Aug '23 & Nov '24.

Here's the 'BEGIN' sign @ US-17, with the corresponding 'END' shield.

We have the intersection in US-17/GA-25 labeled as 'GA25SprExt'.  Not sure if that was my label, or a changed one after I let go of GA back in the day.

I'm guessing it is indeed a Spur route extension, and they lettered it that way due to not confuse people by adding another 'GA 25' route along US-17 between the two (only 1.7 miles separate them)

What makes you think SE stands for Spur Extension rather than southeast?

The 2005-2006 state map which labels it as '25SpE'.

Ok, that's a good reason. So I guess it's Spur E?

This legislative document confirms it is Spur E.

Here, also, was its addition to the state highway system - https://www.dot.ga.gov/DriveSmart/MapsData/Documents/StateHighwaySystemRevisionMaps/2006_GlynnCounty.pdf#search=%22state%20route%2025%20spur%22

No verbiage as to the derivation of the route name.
