VA VA305 point request

When I drove SR 305, it was after 5 pm, so the gate here was closed. Is there any chance I could get a point there? Thanks.

When I clinched it on a Sunday, I was close enough to see the end, counted it clinched, and moved on.

Gates generally deserve points, but not so close to the end of a route IMO.

Agreed.

However, are we sure it even goes beyond the gate in the first place?  That address number on the gate & the mailbox makes me think it might not.

The Route Master indicates that 305 splits beyond the gate, with one branch to the rest area/museum, and the other north about a half-mile to a battlefield and then to dead-end at a turnaround. The HB shows only the former branch. Should we add the other one? (It seems to be unsigned.)

My understanding is that the branch has to be signed (see VA 365, VA 369, VA 319, etc.) for us to include it or I would guess no.

Not that I am aware of, but many of these VA 3xx routes have few if any reassurance shields to begin with.

GMSV is very recent and there are no postings past the gate.  This has been true for at least 20 years.


The 3xx facility routes are subject to changes over time to the extent they are posted or not and whether in shields or white rectangles.
